House rules
Into The HiFi is written by its readers and by the people who make, sell and play the music and the gear. These are the rules everyone writes under, members and companies alike. They are short on purpose.
Say what you think
Strong opinion is the point. You may say a component sounds bad, that a brand has lost its way, that a price is hard to defend, or that a published review was wrong.
Keep it about the music and the gear, not the person. No slurs, harassment or personal insults, no sexual content, no one's private information, no spam, and no profanity.
Nothing is for sale here
Never, either way: prices you paid or will sell for, sales, discounts, promo codes, "contact me for a price", stock counts or for-sale listings. Sales belong on your own website, which your company page links to.
A manufacturer's list price stated as a fact is fine: "it retails for $2,495".
A post that breaks this is held, not published, and you are told what to change. Nothing about it goes public.
Your first post is read by a person
The first time you publish, a person at Into The HiFi reads it before it goes up. After that, your posts go up when you press publish.
If we send a post back, it comes back to you as a draft with a note saying why, so you can fix it and publish again.
People in the industry
Anyone who works for a brand, a distributor, a shop, a publication or a band can say so. The company's own page owner confirms it; we do not.
Post as the company when you are speaking for it: a new product, a factory or shop visit, an event you are running, a show you are at, company news.
Post as yourself for everything else: the record that stopped you in your tracks, a concert, a memory, a system you heard at a friend's. Your company still shows under your name.
Every post says who it is from. A post from a company is signed by the company and by you.
If you work with a brand, or with a distributor or shop that carries it, your ratings of its gear are kept but do not count toward its scores. The gear page tells you so.
Write it yourself
A post that is mostly a press release, or mostly someone else's words, still goes up, labelled as such, and is not listed by search engines.
Musicians and bands
A musician's page links to where a record can be heard and bought. We host no audio and sell nothing.
What money can and cannot buy
Paid placement is always labelled. A company can pay to be listed first in the companies directory, marked Featured, or to promote an event, marked Promoted.
Nothing else is for sale: not a place in the feed, not the industry row, and never a score or a rating on a gear page.
